When most people think of Kenya’s coast, they picture white sandy beaches, rolling waves, and fresh coconut water. While those treasures certainly exist, my recent visit to Kaloleni in Kilifi County reminded me that the coast has so much more to offer.

I traveled there to receive an award, and I couldn’t have asked for a better location to celebrate. Surrounded by vast landscapes, warm-hearted villagers, and stunning scenery, I experienced the rich Giriama culture firsthand.

Dressed in traditional attire, I enjoyed local entertainment, sampled the famous mnazi, joined a tree-planting activity, and ended the day watching one of the most breathtaking sunsets I’ve ever seen.
